Baby Clinics & Child Development Checks

These clinics are usually run on a Wednesday. You can see a Health Visitor between 2:00pm and 3:00pm. The practice Nurse runs the Immunisation Clinic which is held between 11:00 and 12:00pm. Appointments will be sent by St Mary’s Hospital for this clinic.

Smear Tests

These are due every three years unless you have had an abnormal smear. Please book a double appointment with the Nurse

Head Start Clinics

Patients can be referred to this clinic through their doctor. At the clinics patients are advised on their combing techniques and treatments are performed where necessary.

Patients are advised not to use lotions prior to their appointment and to bring a hat/headwear as they may be travelling home with wet hair.

Specialised Clinics

The Gables Surgery is a PMS practice – this stands for Personal Medical Services and means the practice can provide specialised clinics for the patients. The practice has looked at the specific needs of the patients and now provides the following specialised clinics.

CHD – Chronic Heart Disease

This clinic is to monitor patients with any established heart conditions

Diabetes

This clinic monitors diabetic patients. If you have CHD or Diabetes you will be sent an appointment annually.

Screening Clinic

This clinic provides health checks for patients

Travel

This clinic provides comprehensive advice to travellers, including vaccinations and malaria prevention, the nurse can provide daily updates on your destination for example local disease outbreaks. Please book appointments 6 weeks before travel

Teenage Clinics

This clinic has an appointment system and drop in between 5:00 – 5:45pm on a Wednesday. If you are aged between 13-19 years you may be invited to a teenage health check. You can also book an appointment with the nurse for any reason, even a friendly chat! If you are under 16 you do not need your parents consent to see a doctor for a confidential discussion.

Cervical Cancer Vaccination for Girls

The government has started its program of vaccinating 12+ year old girls against cervical cancer. This is organised through the secondary school system. Older girls up to 18 years old will be invited to have their vaccinations at the surgery but the administration is through the Health Protection Agency and they will be called when due. The Department of Health have chosen Cervirix as the vaccine they are using. In trials it seems to protect for longer and better against the strains of virus that cause cervical cancer.

Minor Surgery

Book an appointment to see the doctor for initial assessment.

You can telephone the surgery and book into any of the above clinics. The clinics are nurse led and have a doctor available if necessary

Test Results

Investigations/Samples

All specimen/samples are sent to the laboratory and are collected at 12 noon and 4pm. Please ensure that any samples are brought to the surgery before 4pm as they cannot be stored overnight. When telephoning the surgery for results please allow 14 days after the test was done.

Test Results 

Tests done at the hospital. Please allow 6/8 weeks for the results. The nurse is available to give out results between  2.00 pm and 3.00 pm on Monday -Friday. The telephone number is 224 8930
